This Week in Startups Paris is growing really nicely and I am stoked that Microsoft BizSpark France is now one of our partners. Therefore I would like to thank Blaise Vignon for helping us to host the event at the fantastic Microsoft Campus in Paris.

Also a big thank you to Vincent Lhoste of Alambik for helping us organizing TWiST.

The winner of the evening is Balloon, a startup that wants to make conferences and events more interactive and give the audience a chance to ask questions to the presenters on stage. Jason waited for such a product for a long time and is planning to use Balloon for the next LAUNCH conference.

TWiST Startups at LAUNCH Conference http://www.twistparis.com/twist-startups-at-launch-conference/ http://www.twistparis.com/twist-startups-at-launch-conference/#comments Thu, 17 Mar 2011 12:11:42 +0000 Kirsten Winkler http://www.twistparis.com/?p=325

In preparation of our TWiST Paris Meetup relaunch on April 8th I thought it would be interesting to make a short recap of the LAUNCH Conference by Jason Calacanis.

Out of the 56 companies that presented on stage 6 were This Week in Startups “alumni” which is more than 10%. Those startups made their first public appearance on the TWiST webcast just like Yoocasa and Supermarmite in Paris.

Storkbrokers www.storkbrokers.com

Storkbrokers officially launched their new website on the mainstage at LAUNCH Conference. The startup is famous for being the first company to receive an angel investment by Jason live on the show.

Addroid www.addroid.com

This was originally from an Ask Jason segment. The founder of Addroid asked Jason for some legal advice after having received a letter from George Lucas, yes Star Wars, stating the use of the name Droid is protected by LucasArts. The founder’s argument was that it is a word play around advertisement and android.

Mougg www.mougg.com

Mougg was a classic call in for the Shark Tank segment right before LAUNCH Conference. The shark tank format is similar to our pitch session at TWiSTParis meetup.  Jason offered the founder a table on the Launch Pad during the show.

Brand Yourself www.brand-yourself.com

Again, classic call in for the Shark Tank from about a year ago.

Shoefitr www.shoefitr.com

A company all Paris participants will remember quite well. It was the epic fight between Yoocasa and Shoefitr at the end of our first TWiST Paris meetup in July 2010 which Shoefitr finally won by a hair. At LAUNCH Conference they won the price for “Most likely to be acquired” in the Launch Pad section. A great success and promising next step!

Tripbod www.tripbod.com

Tripbod was the winner of the second TWiST London meetup which got the chance to present their product during the first all London episode back in February. After some great feedback the team got their invitation for the LAUNCH Conference plus a table at the Launch Pad.

I think this shows the value of pitching your startup at one of the global meetups pretty well and therefore I welcome every startup entrepreneur in Paris to submit your application for the next edition of TWiST Paris on April 8th.

The jury which is formed by

  • Lon Harris, former Creative Director of the ThisWeekIn network and initiator of the meetup series
  • Blaise Vignon, Emerging Business Lead at Microsoft
  • Vincent Lhoste, founder of Alambik
  • and myself

will choose six companies to pitch the Paris audience on April 8th. Three of those chosen by public voting will then have the great opportunity to pitch Jason Calacanis and Tyler Crowley live on This Week in Startups.

For everyone else who want to get in touch with us and also use this event for some serious networking or talking to some of the participants from the previous editions, I would like to point you to our tickets available on Eventbrite for only 10 Euros to cover the cost for drinks over at Microsoft. There are a few press places available which includes of course tech bloggers and if you entitle to that the best will be to contact me directly under: kirsten[at]twistparis[dot]com

I’ll be happy to see as many familiar and new faces as possible on April 8th (we’re a bit limited in the places available though) and I look forward to having a personal chat with you!

polyglotparty.com by Lingueo

Our two time TWiST Paris hosts at Lingueo just launched a social network for polyglots based on their very successful monthly event “Polyglot Party” in Paris.

Besides being a great marketing for the main service, the language learning marketplace, it is a great event to meet people from around the world and exchange some language skills in a fun and relaxed atmosphere which of course adds to the overall brand awareness.

Congratulations to Guillaume, Arnaud and Johann!

And the Winner is: Super Marmite http://www.twistparis.com/and-the-winner-is-super-marmite/ http://www.twistparis.com/and-the-winner-is-super-marmite/#comments Sat, 18 Sep 2010 11:01:41 +0000 Kirsten Winkler http://www.twistparis.com/?p=182 Bonjour,

yet another awesome evening with the Parisian startup scene is over! Big thank you for all of you who attended our second This Week in Startups Paris Meetup either in the offices of Lingueo or via our live stream. We had 10 people watching over the internet and taking into consideration that I decided to stream live only the night before, I have to say that the result was really great. So thank you to Ustream for building such a great tool!

I would also like to thank the team of Lingueo who again hosted our event in their office and especially Guillaume le Dieu de Ville for co-hosting the event although being really sick. Thank you to Alexandre Lobel of ParisLabs for providing us with the projector just in time. And thank you to Réda Berrehili of Tumbup and Guillaume Wolf of Beansight, our two TWiST Paris allumni for getting us up to date with the progress of their startups.

But now, without further ado: congratulations to our winner of the second This Week in Startups Paris Meetup Super Marmite. Super Marmite is a hyper local community of people who love to cook and people who love to eat good, home made food. With the application you can find great home made meals in your area and people who love to cook can offer their extra portions and make an additional revenue.

Jason and Tyler love the idea and it’s been a long time since I saw such great ratings from them and the TWiST community in the chatroom. Olivier provided the TWiST Paris viewers with an invitation code: twistparis so go ahead and see what’s cooking!

I think, that’s a wrap. The pitches of all our startups that night will be uploaded over the weekend. For updates on the next TWiST Paris Meetup make sure to join our LinkedIn Group and/or our Facebook Fan page.

Looking forward seeing you all for the next This Week in Startups Paris Meetup!

à trés bientôt,

TWiST Paris 2nd Edition – Final Schedule http://www.twistparis.com/twist-paris-2nd-edition-final-schedule/ http://www.twistparis.com/twist-paris-2nd-edition-final-schedule/#comments Thu, 16 Sep 2010 14:21:16 +0000 Kirsten Winkler http://www.twistparis.com/?p=168

Bonjour à toutes et tous,

here is the final schedule for tomorrow’s TWiST Paris Meetup. Please note that we will start the event 30 minutes earlier than originally planned. I added an extra segment called “TWiST Allumni” where some of the startups that pitched at our very first meetup will give us a short update on what has happened in the meantime.

Another important change: we will try and broadcast the event live via Ustream. The URL is http://twistparis.com/live and there is also a chat room on the site. This way, you can attend the Meetup from anywhere and you will also be able to engage with us by asking your questions and we will count votes from the chatroom.

There are still some tickets available at http://twistparis02.eventbrite.com so if you know someone who might be interested in attending our meetup, please spread the word.

The evening is planned as follows:

  1. 20:00h – Entrance to the Event.
    • Please bring something to drink and/or snacks as last time.
  2. 20:15h – Opening of the Event.
  3. 20:30h – TWiST Paris Allumni. Short updates from the startups that pitched on the last TWiST Paris Meetup.
    • Beansight
    • Lingueo
    • Tumbup
    • Yoocasa
  4. 21:00h – Pitches
    • 42goals
    • Odijo
    • Super Marmite
    • Swapytoo
  5. 21:30h – Voting
  6. 22:05h – Live Call Jason Calacanis on This Week in Startups
  7. 22:30h – Open evening.

I think that should be all. If you have any questions please get in contact with me either via Twitter @TWiSTParis or send an email to kirsten[at]twistparis[dot]com.

Looking forward to see you all in Paris tomorrow!

À demain,
